Crews from Bradford Amateur Rowing Club enjoyed some autumnal sunshine on the water in Chester.

They took part in the annual 4,000-metre Dee Autumn Head, a highly competitive event attracting crews from around the country.

Notable performances came in the form of the men’s doubles as Sam Manicom and Tim Woodman sculled a convincing win in the novice 2x class, beating their nearest rivals by over a minute.

IM2 2x crewmates Thomas Atcheson and John Morris had a fantastic row, achieving the eighth-best small boat time of the day from a field of 227 competing crafts.

Other Bradford Amateur crews put in solid performances on a demanding course, including the masters D men.

They used the race as good training in their preparations for the Masters Fours Head of the River Race in London later this month.

A senior men’s crew of brothers Ben and Sam Manicom, Mark ‘The Hulk’ Nixon and Habib Azizi rowed a great IM3 4x+ race.

They were followed by a fast-improving women’s novice 4x+ crew of Sheila Gregory, Emma McDowell, Hannah Walker and Vicky Acomb, who have only learned to row this year.

An impressive set of sculling skills were also displayed along the length of the 4,000m course by the club’s junior contingent.

Good times were placed by the J15A 2x of Sam Pollard and Oscar Hickson and the WIM3 2x of Nicold Oldroyd and Louise Bromley.
